Speaker Profile: Razali Johari

Md Haji Razali bin Haji Johari is one of the most entrusted figures in promoting public and private sector partnership in the Asian and ASEAN regions.

Mr. Razali is the Group Executive Chairman of the Archipelago Group of Companies and was formerly the Executive Vice-Chairman of the PSA Muara Container Terminal Sdn Bhd. He is entrusted by the Government of Brunei Darussalam for many policy advancements, not only nationally, but also globally.

Born on 25 May 1946 in Kg. Kianggeh in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, Mr. Razali brings with him vast knowledge on the many ground issues facing industries stemmed forth from many of his private sector memberships in the region. At the regional front, he used to be a member of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN- BAC) from Brunei Darussalam. He was also the past President of the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASEAN- CCI) in 1994 - 1996 and Vice-President from 1985-2008.

In the growth triangle areas, Mr. Razali was Chairman of the Brunei- Indonesia- Malaysia- Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP- EAGA) between 1994 -1998 and 2000 -2004. He served as the Vice-President of the Confederation of the Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) in 1990 until 2008.

At the national level, he is serving as the President of the National Chambers of Commerce and Industry (NCCIBD), from 1989-1997 and 2002 to present. At the same time, he is the President of the Brunei Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) from 1999 – until today. He also held the post of Chairman of the Shipping Association of Brunei Darussalam (SABD) from 1998-2012.

From many of his standings in the business community, the Government of Brunei Darussalam has continuously sought his expert guidance. He has been made a member of the Economic Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (1997-2006); delegation to the International Labour Conference (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland for year 2007 and 2008; was appointed as member of the Brunei Information and Technology (BIT) Council at the Ministry of Communications in 2008 up to the present. Mr. Razali was also appointed as member of the Brunei Darussalam's Long Term Development Plan, the body responsible for formulating Brunei's long term development plan and for monitoring it's implementation.

For many of his outstanding contribution, Mr. Razali has been bestowed with various titles and awards, to include the 'Darjah Setia Negara Brunei, Yang Amat Bahagia Darjah Ke-Empat' (P.S.B.) in 1997; 'Darjah Setia Paduka Mahkota Brunei, Yang Amat Mulia Darjah Ketiga' (S.M.B.) in 2000 and 'Darjah Setia Negara Brunei, Yang Amat Bahagia Darjah Ketiga (S.N.B.) in 2006.

Mr. Razali has an LLB from London in 1971.
